YOUR DATA

Privacy notice

The short version: you can play without creating an account. We use limited pseudonymous information to run fair rankings, understand gameplay and remember progress on your own device.

Who we are

The Daily Find is a UK-based daily word game and is the controller responsible for the personal data described in this notice. For privacy questions or requests, contact privacy@thedailyfind.today.

Information we use

  • Anonymous session information: a random identifier stored in a secure cookie so one device can submit one official result for each level and anonymous usage totals can be de-duplicated.
  • Optional public nickname: if you choose one, it appears beside your verified scores on public rankings. You can continue using the automatically generated Finder name instead. Do not enter your real name, contact details or other identifying information.
  • Game results: challenge date and level, score, whether the target was found, word count, best combo, power-up use, a replay fingerprint and submission time.
  • Gameplay statistics: anonymous visits, level starts, verified completions, crowns and share actions, together with the challenge date, difficulty, coarse country code and limited referral source when available. We do not retain your IP address, precise location, nickname or selected words in gameplay analytics.
  • Replay information: the selected tile paths and words are processed temporarily to verify a submitted score. The full replay is not retained after verification.
  • Device-local progress: your unfinished board position, remaining moves, score, word history, power-up use, streak, personal best, daily results, tutorial status and theme are stored in your browser. This allows an official attempt to resume after a refresh. We cannot read this information except when your browser uses it to run the game.
  • Technical information: our hosting and security providers may temporarily process IP address, browser information and request logs to deliver and protect the service.
  • Messages: if you contact us, we use the details you provide to reply and manage your request.

Our legitimate interests are running a reliable, enjoyable and fair game. We use limited, pseudonymous information and do not use it for advertising profiles. You can turn anonymous gameplay analytics off at any time on the Cookie Notice page.

Who receives information

We use hosting, database, security and technical service providers, including OpenAI Sites and Cloudflare. They process information to provide their services to us. We may also disclose information where required by law or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. We do not sell personal data.

International processing

Some service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where required, we rely on lawful safeguards such as UK adequacy regulations or approved contractual protections.

How long we keep it

Official score, completion and pseudonymous gameplay-statistics records are normally retained for up to 13 months so we can compare annual patterns and protect leaderboard integrity. Reports show only aggregated totals. An optional nickname is associated with the same anonymous session and is removed when that inactive session expires, normally after one year. Short-term rate-limit records are kept only as long as needed for security. Messages are kept only as long as needed to deal with the request and any related legal obligations.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to our use of your personal data, and to receive certain information in a portable form. Because gameplay records are pseudonymous, we may need information from your browser to locate a record. Contact us to make a request.

Your right to object: where we rely on legitimate interests, you can object to that processing. We will consider your circumstances and stop unless we have compelling reasons to continue.

You may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. We would appreciate the opportunity to address your concern first.

Children

The game is intended for a general audience and does not request an email address or account profile. The optional nickname should never contain a player’s real name or contact details. A child under 13 should use the service and choose any nickname only with a parent or guardian’s involvement.
